English Partnerships is the government’s national regeneration agency. Its aim is to deliver high quality, sustainable growth in England by developing a portfolio of strategic sites and acting as the government’s specialist advisor on brownfield land. It also helps to create communities where people can afford to live and want to live, and supports the urban renaissance by improving the quality of our towns and cities. English Partnerships is a key delivery agency for the Deputy Prime Minister’s Sustainable Communities Plan.

English Partnerships (and its predecessor bodies) has been involved in Warrington for many years, since Warrington became one of the 21 new towns selected for development around England since the Second World War. The New Town Development Corporation was set up in 1968, subsequently becoming the Warrington and Runcorn Development Corporation, and residual responsibilities transferring to the Commission for the New Towns (CNT) in 1989. The local office was in New Town House in the centre of Warrington.

In May 1999 CNT was combined with the national functions of the Urban Regeneration Agency to form English Partnerships as the national force for regeneration and development.
